Immigrant schools for children from Myanmar have teachers from a wide range of ages, around 20-50 years old. Is the male-female ratio about 80% female? The number of women is increasing.
Five questions to six immigrant school teachers: why they became teachers, How they want children to be in the future, what they are having trouble with, when they are happiest and what they want to do if only one wish comes true, I asked.
The most reason for becoming a teacher was that they wanted children to acquire knowledge. Other answers were that they liked children, wanted to gain educational experience, and liked the work of teachers.
When I asked them what they wanted children to do in the future, they answered that they wanted them to gain knowledge and have a stable job, to be people who can contribute to society, and to be people who value their families. Many immigrants have large families, and many of them are very close to each other and have family feelings, so the answer was that those were prosperous.
The trouble is that the teachers really like to interact with the children, and they all say that they can’t teach children to study because the immigration school hasn’t been reopened due to the COVID-19.
Teachers said that the happiest times for them were when they felt the happiness of their students, when they spent time with them, and when they taught their knowledge.
The last question I asked was what would happen if only one wish came true. To give the children a stable school building, to wish that their future will be stable, to get fields so the children can play sports, wanting a field and wanting to have sports equipment, I got these answers. And it made me feel warm that the teachers have warmely feelings to children.
